Lindsay & Zachary

The Backstory

We met at a Frances Whitney show at Rockwood Music Hall in the Lower East Side. Zachary was there with his bandmates Conway and Freddy; Lindsay was there with college friends Talia, Lindsay Jost, and Lydia. We found each other at a high top in the back of the room and fell into the easy conversation of old friends. When our groups migrated together to Heaven Can Wait (a bar around the corner), we stuck side by side.

Zachary

I was like who is this beautiful, intense girl and why does it feel like we're in our own secret universe when we talk? We had the best time dancing that night - Heaven Can Wait has a stage with a little curtain around it, and we were doing this bit where we would throw open the curtain and one of us would jump out from behind and hit a move. Honestly I felt like she was out of my league, but at the end of the night I asked for her number anyways. Only to find out she had a boyfriend! She said we could be friends, but I said that's not gonna be possible.

Talia and I spent the Uber ride home debriefing the fact that I had really wanted to say yes to a date with "the drummer guy" (I thought Zachary was a drummer). A few months later I was single again, and my friend Ali encouraged me to text him. We composed this masterpiece of a message:

Our first date was in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Zachary brought wine and Lindsay brought snacks. Lindsay's phone died, so after a few hours we went to a nearby bar to find a charger. Zachary ate six deviled eggs.

It was the only thing on the menu! But also if you eat six deviled eggs in front of her and she still wants to go on a second date, she must really like you.

It was clear to both of us from the very beginning that we'd end up together. We tried to take things slow, but we didn't do a good job. Zachary wrote a love song called "Something Right" after our second date. Lindsay brought Zachary to meet her brother (and soon-to-be sister-in-law) after the third. Eventually, we had to face the fact that we were soulmates.

Fast forward - through so many concerts, holidays, projects, comedy shows, ski trips, books passed back and forth, hikes, dinner parties, and weekends with friends - we now live together in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in the coziest loft in the world.

In July, Zachary surprised me with a chartered sailboat ride off the southern tip of Manhattan. He coordinated with my friends to get me there, stashed a dress aboard for me to change into, and gave the first mate a disposable camera to capture the moment. Once I got over my initial shock of being on a boat, he got down on a knee and asked me to marry him. It was epic. (I said yes!!)

We are so excited to get married.
We are SO excited to celebrate with all of you.
